Bond Referendum

On November 3, Wapello County voters will consider a $45 million Jail Expansion & Renovations Bond Referendum.

The proposed project would increase the jail’s total capacity to 316 beds. It would also include renovations to the kitchen, laundry, booking, and other support areas. Site modifications are also included, along with a new roof and updated security system for the existing facility to bring these components in line with the new addition.

Why Is the Project Being Considered?

Wapello County has identified inmate classification requirements, jail capacity, and the cost of housing inmates in other counties as key issues.
